Holaaa~ I’m FairyGhost AKA Jade (they/them).
I’m in my mid-30’s. I’m from Puerto Rico and I live in the South US.
I make art (yeidisworld) and do solarpunk stuff (carrd) on my free time.
But over in this here blog I’m just a corny dweeb rambling about their blorbos.

Journaling prompt: What are your favorite summer-associated foods?

It was a bit difficult to try to think about foods that are exclusive to summer.

I’m from Puerto Rico which, for anyone unaware, is a tropical island in the Caribbean where the climate was virtually unchanging growing up. I can list out some of our traditional Christmas foods, but I’m blanking on Summer dish memories.

In my experience, when you grow up in a tropical port town, beach bbq’s are not specifically tied to a specific season. You wind up near the beach regardless because that’s where the best local foods are located.
Note: Yes, eternal summer was one of the blessings/perks of having been raised near the ocean. It is a blessing that I cherish (and believe me, centered a portion of my personality around it lol)

So I guess that leaves me with taking you down to “My Favorite Fruits in the Tropics” since the cyclical availability of seasonal fruits is easier to track than specific dishes.

I made a picmix with some of the fruits I was thinking of while I wrote this post. :)
I also added Pokemon found in the Alolan Pokedex because Sun/Moon reminds me of home.

Journaling Prompt: I Love The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

I think I made a mistake in the friending meme questionnaire by accidentally implying I'm not fannish about mini-series The Haunting of Hill House (2018). To clarify, I'm not fannish in the sense that I'm fanart-ing or fanfic-writing about it, but I am indeed enough to feel compelled to spread gospel about how good it is.

So here's a silly list of my thoughts about it.

Spoiler-Free Thoughts

  • I've watched this like 5 times. Which is rare for me, because I have to actively remind myself to be a rewatcher. But I've grown so attached to this tearjerker of a horror!
  • That given, it is emotionally taxing, this show. It HURTS.
  • The update to the characters being a family makes for such interesting dynamics.
  • And they're written and performed so interestingly. Each one of them is so different, and each of their character arcs, they each take on a different symbolic and literal ghost through the whole show
  • I looove how the show weaves the parallels of the past and the present.
  • Hidden ghosts!! (sometimes will scare you more than the in-your-face ghosts)
  • My partner is sensitive to jump scares, so we used this website to keep track (it was okay as an aid, not perfect.

It has been an uphill battle getting into the habit of cooking.

One way my AuDHD affects me personally is by adding to the psychological tangle that is my relationship with discipline and self-management. It has been difficult for me to develop habits without relying on other people’s structures in adulthood.

As such, I’m constantly trying to test myself as I try to figure out what internal structures I can build to help my brain carry on with task-work.

And I suppose the search for self-management tools is extra desperate as I fight through a lapse of un-medication.

But medication or not, I think part of having ADHD is understanding that you will always be evolving and always on the search for things that can externally motivate your INCU-based nervous system.

Cooking!

So, I want to develop the habit of *enjoying cooking at home.* It is good for the wallet, it is good for the environment, it is good for the health, it is a good skill to have.

Logically this is something I WANT to do.
meme of guy pointing at himself in the mirror, looking very serious

But my dopamine receptors... Where are they...? suffering bunny

Maybe prettifying the area a bit can help with motivation? As much as budget permits?

Scrolling down Pinterest and Caroline Winkler-pilled,
it occurred to me:

"Wait, I like painting. I can make a painting for me. And it’s not a painting that I would have to sell. It would be making a painting.. For myself??? Not for a project to fit my'brand' / 'style' / aesthetic'?? Not even for a gift??? But for me to hang in my own home???"

Wow. ~the concept~ was oddly hard to grasp. All together now:

Thanks for the ruining hobbies, Capitalism sarcastic bunny

Maybe making personal stuff like that might help me break the art block curses I so often contract.

I’m thinking something Shire-y. Or maybe Delicious in Dungeon!

Or maybe just cute fruit shapes!?

Omg the possibilities are endless!

Well, as endless as my skill level determines xD

Oh, what fun to think about.

Omg, legit there are so many cool people taking part of the sunshine revival thing! I'm gonna have to be perusing through the friending meme for weeks to come. Not only do I want to check out fic writer works, but also the communities they recommend, and their journals that look fun to read, and and and distressed blushing

Does anybody ever get overwhelmed about positive things???

I feel this short by Elyse Myers to my CORE.

If you don't want to or can't watch it, this is basically how it goes:

She's at New York City with her partner for the first time and they go sightseeing. They stumble upon Radio City avenue and arrive to this NBC shop with a ton of memorabilia of shows she's deeply "emotionally invested in." So she's peering through the glass doors, with a red face, teary eyes, and a big smile on her face.

Her partner is like "we should go in", and she's immediately like "Absolutely not."
"Why?" he asks sensically.

And she responds "You know when you love something so much it makes you sick to your stomach and you want to throw up so you completely avoid it?"

And he's like "...no."

And that's when she realizes it is in fact, not normal, to avoid things you love because you don't know how to process the emotions. And she proceeds to show a photo of herself at the store, looking immensely overwhelmed with emotion.
Anyway, I think about this short... A LOT. distressed blushing

I'm taking part of Art Fight during July. ^^ I joined Team Fossils against Team Crystals.

It was a bit of an identity crisis to pick between the two, but then I remembered I love Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I love the rag-tag team in that movie and I love (and relate) to Milo Thatch's general... (gestures to him vaguely) energy. So I went the route: "let's cosplay my archaeologist AU dreams".

Granted, if I think about it further, I guess I could've just as well joined Team Crystals in the spirit of Kida too... But I digress!

I made a self-portait of myself alluding to Milo.
You can find the full view on my art journal ([personal profile] yeidisworld) as well as my art tumblr.

Happy Sunshine Revival~!

My partner Blue and I went out to get sushi today! happy blob closeup

...But I definitely over-ordered. distressed blob I got a Philadelphia Roll, a Rainbow Roll (my go-to), and a plate of Pork Katsu.

The Pork Katsu was really good! So far, the best out of 3 Pork Katsu's available in town. It had a very good crunch! And the rice was sooo tasty, I could've eaten it all by itself.

The Rainbow Roll was reliably tasty, but I'm still trying to find "my perfect sushi choice". So in trying to step out of the comfort zone a bit, I ordered an extra roll. One I used to enjoy years ago: a Philadelphia roll.

And I definitely forgot just how rich Philadelphia rolls can be. sweatdrop blob As much as I appreciate the generosity, I might have enjoyed it more with only half of the chunk of cream cheese that they used. Next time, I'll go for only Salmon/Avocado sans the cream cheese.

To commemorate the event, I'm sharing a playlist I've slowly been adding stuff to since 2019.
Every time I'm listening to a song, and it makes me think of warm sunlight and fresh air, I put it on this playlist.
That means it's a mess xD lmao. It's a wide spectrum of folk, "indie" sounds, and pop. Lots of guitars, but not exclusively.
Overall, just very "touch grass" to me.

I made a quick icon for it with a photo I took of my step grandpa almost 2 decades ago. It's my favorite picture of him.

Cool indie art I stumbled upon: Music

I'm trying to actively engage more with independent artists. So how cool do you think it feels to poke around a tumblr mutual's page and find out they make music!? What a cool feeling!

They're going on a music hiatus right now but they have a few things on Bandcamp I'm eager to check out. Happy to share! :)

I'd describe this album as an experimental synth RPG adventure with upbeat hero tracks, mysterious pixel dungeons, and energetic boss battles.

Did a videochat with a favorite person for a few hours. It was refreshing as it always is when I talk to her.  And we've decided to do a weekly virtual meetup so we can exercise creative muscles on a regular basis.

I have gotten to a point I feel very nervous about establishing goals. I'm so used to my neurodivergent brain letting me down, that I've developed an aversion to it. And subsequently I've swam in a shame hole for what feels like forever.

So, hopefully these creative meetups will help.  We're gonna try to establish goals together and little by little figure out what's realistic and what deserves priority.

I suppose I'm writing this here as an extra enforcer of accountability. So let me sort of blurt out some stuff swimming in my head.

This list will continue to be under construction post posting.

Mega grumpy! crying little ghost

Today one of my online buddies suggested we play Baldur's Gate 3 in the group chat. For once, all four of us were down, so I got excited. I hadn't played in forever and I've been missing it a lot. But I went to get updated and I keep getting errors :( So I won't be able to play tonight. Big bummer! I was so excited to commit shenanigans with the fellas. sad little ghost

I think I'm extra grumpy about it because I was looking forward to creating a character. And I've been stuck in a creative rut recently, so it felt like the creation process was going to be refreshing.

Oh well. neutral settled little ghost

Curating my new tumblr side blogs (2000's) (whimsigoth) has helped me treat the art block / burnout a little. I don't know when is the next time I'm gonna illustrate something, but I'm also trying not to force it too hard.

For now, my attention has been shifting to either graphics editing or writing. Good? Bad? I don't know but I'm trying not to be too particular about it. I just want to figuratively spill the contents of my brain into the world and I guess right now that looks different than creating a "proper illustration piece.

Ebbs & Flows

Here's a picmix of my wrist which I burned with the coffee steam from my mokapot the other day while reaching over it to turn the stovetop off. Featuring the paper wristband from the Remi Wolf concert I wore for 5 days out of some ritualistic act of devotion for how much I loved the show.

The fact that Quizilla got bought by Nickelodeon only for them to axe it makes me SICK fussy little bear face

My autistic category-loving "how do people work?"-wondering ass LOVED that webbed site. Like, ofc everyone is a vast universe of beautiful complexity and all that, ...but it's also so fun to go to a silly little quiz and maybe find out something new about yourself. It's like, throughout life you're creating an internal scrapbook in tribute of yourself, and silly quiz results can be a fun little part of it.

I also remember reading a bit of fanfiction on quizilla. Specifically one about Draco Malfoy and another one about Yu Yu Hakusho lmao. I wasn't a Draco lover, but it was very "rivals/enemies to lovers" (which is a trope I do indulge in occasionally. (ahem)recommendations appreciated, fanfic or published(ahem)

I've been scavenging the depths of my 2004 LiveJournal (and side note: wild to think there's still stuff I wrote on the internet over TWENTY years ago) to scavenge for cool stuff.

And before I share some fun findings, let me just say I was onto something with the format I was using for journal entries. I would share a couple of paragraphs about my day, maybe share a silly conversation with a friend, and end some posts with quiz results from quizilla. Like ok, little blog format queen, slay.

Anyway, here's some some silly little gems under the cut. pleasant little bear face Most image links are broken unfortunately. But it's still fun (at least to me) to see the text.

Hi there~! I'm Jade aka FairyGhost aka Ghost and I hail from Tumblr.

Been on there for over an embarrassing but joyous decade. I love the format and most of the culture there, but just like on any other virtual home on the internet, impermanence is a cruel mistress of our reality. I also feel compelled to say that this feels especially true during these days of a strained political (US) climate.

While setting your own custom website is a robust practice I support and deeply admire, there's obvious consistent value of connecting with others directly.

And so, we cultivate social gardens, I like to think. We sprinkle some crumbs here and there, as we continue on an endless journey to create meaningful connections and collaborations... leaving a ghastly amount of enormous digital footprints for future trippy alien anthropologists to psychically experience the dumbass shitposts we left behind.

IDK, ya feel me? I'm binging a show while I watch this. And I promise I care about what I'm writing, but my AuDHD hyperfocus is hooked and it feels like it'll cause me literal damage if I stop season 3 of Handmaid's Tale. uwu;;

Anyhoos, here's a new flower for the garden. I hope I can tend to it with patience.
